Indiana Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans

Indiana comprehensive health insurance plans provide coverages similar to much more expensive group plans available through employers. Anthem Blue Cross, UnitedHealthCare, Medical Mutual, Humana, Celtic and Assurant offer comprehensive health insurance benefits to individuals and families in Indiana. It is the most common type of health care coverage.

We created this website to educate the consumer and simplify the process of applying for quality affordable health care. We take the time to investigate and find the comprehensive plans that not only match your budget, but also provide the coverage you need. Additionally, the rates you view on this website are the most competitive prices filed by each carrier with the Indiana Department of Insurance. And you will never pay any fees when you use our service. If you already have coverage, we'll evaluate your best options, which may include staying with your present company.

UnitedHealthCare’s “Copay Select” plan offers comprehensive coverage at affordable prices in most parts of the state. This particular policy features $35 copays on covered office visits (unlimited) and rich RX benefits that cover generic and non-generic prescriptions. Most preventive benefits are not subject to a deductible or copay and dental and vision discounts are included with the policy. This plan is UnitedHealthCare's best policy.

For example, in the Indianapolis area, a healthy 35 year-old male pays only $140 per month for comprehensive coverage (UnitedHealthCare “Copay Select” with $2,500 major medical deductible). This rate reduces to $107 if the deductible is increased to $5,000. Optional deductibles from $500 to $10,000 are also available. Also included is a "Vanishing Deductible" benefit which rewards policyholders that have very few claims.

A reduced rate is available from the "Copay Value" plan which reduces the covered prescription and office visit coverages. But if you don't often use those features, the savings may be enough to offset the lost benefits. This policy still provides mandated preventive services at no cost to the insured. And catastrophic claims still are well-covered.

Another popular option is the Anthem Blue Cross “SmartSense” policy. Three office visits and formulary drug prescription benefits are included along with major medical coverages. Premiums are lower than most other comprehensive plans because of the limitation in benefits.Typical preventive expenses are usually paid in full. Once again, this policy may not contain some "bells and whistles" that other more expensive plans have. However, the premium savings must be considered.

The same healthy 35 year-old male that was previously mentioned pays only $83 per month for a “SmartSense” plan with a $5,000 major medical deductible. Reducing the deductible to $1,000 will raise the premium to $133. If you don’t have many office visits or prescriptions, this type of coverage may be worth considering. However, the “SmartSense” plan is typically not recommended if there are many small children in the household.

Indiana Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) provide comprehensive benefits after a deductible has been satisfied. Although office visits (other than preventive visits) and prescriptions are subject to the deductible, with most HSA plans, 100% of expenses are covered after the deductible. Network repricing discounts will also reduce out-of-pocket expenses. The combination of lower premiums, tax deductions and accumulating money for future medical expenses, makes this type of policy very popular. Anthem and UnitedHeathCare offer the best rates. Celtic, however, offers a low-priced "Value" HSA policy.
